COVID-19
SUPPORT FOR EMPLOYEES

The federal and provincial governments are working on financial programs to help businesses manage at this time. Information that is being released is preliminary and we are awaiting more details, including how hotels can access these programs.
We will update this list as more information comes available.

​Employment Support Measures For Businesses

CANADA EMERGENCY RESPONSE BENEFIT
Even though the CERB has ended, you can apply for a period retroactively. The CRA is continuing to accept and process retroactive applications for period 7 (August 30 to September 26, 2020) through the CRA’s My Account or automated toll-free phone line.

New Recovery Benefits

The New Recovery Benefits are available between September 27, 2020 and September 25, 2021.The CRA will open applications for the Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit and the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit on October 5 and for the Canada Recovery Benefit on October 12.

BC EMERGENCY BENEFIT FOR WORKERS
Apply now for the B.C. Emergency Benefit for Workers, a one-time, tax-free $1,000 payment for B.C. residents whose ability to work has been affected due to COVID-19. 
The B.C. Emergency Benefit for Workers is now available to eligible B.C. residents who stopped working because of reasons related to COVID-19 between March 1 and 14, 2020.

You have until December 2, 2020 to apply. Payments are generally made within 10 business days after your application is approved. We'll notify you by email when your payment has been processed.

CHANGES TO THE WORK-SHARING PROGRAM
The Work-Sharing (WS) program, which helps employers and employees avoid layoffs when there is a temporary decrease in business activity beyond the control of the employer, has new temporary measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic
  • WS agreements extended for maximum possible duration from 38 weeks to 76 weeks, waived mandatory cooling-off period and more flexible employer eligibility.
  • For employees to be eligible for the WS program they must be eligible to receive EI benefits, considered core staff, and agree to reduce working hours and share available work.
